Everyone can enjoy our art exposition. Stroll through and enjoy the artwork, shop for artwork to display in your home, or reserve space to have your own artwork featured for everyone to see (and maybe even buy!)

What exactly is the Art Expo? Isn't it just an art show?

It is, yet so much more! In addition to the standard convention-style art show, Providence Anime Conference is cultivating this unique art experience into a more museum style gallery, allowing the exhibitors to include with their submission a short description on their piece which will entail the medium used and the inspiration for their work.

Pieces in the Art Expo will be displayed in the gallery by category: traditional media, digital media, adult content, 3D art (models, sculpture, etc.) and costumes.

YES, COSTUMES!

The Providence Anime Conference Art Expo boasts a COSTUME EXPO, which allows participants to display their favorite cosplay costumes on dress forms and mannequins for viewers to admire. If you feel you have a costume that belongs in a museum, this is your chance! More information on this exciting new event will be released shortly!

FAQ

  1. Do I have to be registered to bring my art to the conference? Can I have a friend bring it for me if I don't go?
All participants (artists or agents) must be registered members of Providence Anime Conference.
  2. How do I sign up? Can I just wait until I get there?
Display places for the Art Expo are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. This includes costumes. You can reserve your space with our sign-up form.
  3. Since this is an adult convention, can I display suggestive or erotic materials?
Yes. Although Providence Anime Conference is a 21+ event, be advised that your adult artwork is subject to placed behind a shielded area away from general viewing. Just because we are all adults doesn't mean we ALL want to see it.
  4. Does my artwork HAVE to be anime?
No! Providence Anime Conference is welcoming all art types! From anime, "western" style comics, sci-fi and fantasy to original portraits and sculpture! This is your time to shine as an artist and, assuming that we are all well-rounded geeks in attendance as well as one of the top art and design schools in the nation down the street, everything will be accepted and appreciated. (However if you are unsure about something, don't hesitate to ask the Art Expo Manager.)
  5. What about costumes, do they have to be anime-related?
Nope! Your costumes from all genres will be welcomed as well. So if you're an active member of the 501st Legion or local renaissance faire and have something spectacular to show off or sell, go for it!
  6. You mentioned selling, how does that work?
The participants in the Art and Costume Expo have a chance to put their creations up for sale in a silent auction style format. Each piece will have a bid sheet located near it that will allow convention members to place bids. After three bids, the piece is qualified for our live art auction which will take place on Sunday afternoon. You also have a chance to list artwork as BUY IT NOW with a set price, or NOT FOR SALE if you can't bare to part with it.

Art Expo Rules

  1. All 2D artwork must be matted or framed for display. Nothing fancy is needed and you don't need to break the bank buying that fancy frame at Michael's, but it does add value to your piece and protects it while on display in the show. Art that is not matted/framed will not be accepted.
  2. Prints will not be accepted in the Art Expo unless they are of digitally created artwork. Artwork created of traditional media must have the original exhibited.
  3. Models and sculptures must be self-supported or have their own stands. The Art Expo will not supply materials for non-supported works.
  4. Electricity is not provided for any items on display.
  5. Costumes must be on a dress form, mannequin, or other display device. Though the Art Expo is working to obtain additional display apparatus, no promises can be made and they will be given at a first come-first serve basis. Check out a tutorial on how to make your own dress form from duct tape. Then perhaps find a creative way to put it on a stand like a coat hanger or large cardboard tubes suitable for a samurai. We ARE creative people after all.
  6. Costumes can be signed out of the Art Expo for wearing to cosplay events and returned for the duration of the conference.
  7. All artwork is to remain in the Art Expo until the artist/agent has signed it out permanently or the buyer has paid and departed the convention with it. This helps protect against theft.
  8. All artwork that is deemed "adult" in nature will be placed in a separate section of the Art Expo reserved for such pieces. Even though this is a 21+ convention, not everyone is here to see adult materials.
  9. Art sales will be conducted in a silent auction format in which potential buyers will place bids on a sheet near the artwork. The artist will choose the starting bid price and a "Buy It Now" price if they desire. If the artist does not wish to sell their piece, they can simply label it NOT FOR SALE on the bid sheet.
  10. Touching or handling of artwork and costumes by anyone other than the artist, Art Expo managers, and support staff is grounds for expulsion from the Art Expo and potentially Providence Anime Conference depending on the severity of the infraction. This will be strictly enforced. In other words: Look with your eyes, not with your hands.
