- What will be going on at Providence Anime Conference 2008?
Please refer to our Programming section for information on all our programming. - What time does it start and end?
Providence Anime Conference will run from the mid-morning until late at night. All programming will get started around late afternoon on Friday. Video programming will probably start at 8am on Saturday and Sunday. Panel programming will start around 10am on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, things will probably settle down around dinner time. We'll have more specifics for you as we get closer to the conference. - If everyone is over 21, does that mean there's going to be lots of alcohol and pornography?
No. There will be some programming at which alcohol is served and, like many anime conventions, there is likely to be some "adult only" video programming as well, but they're not central to the focus of Providence Anime Conference. Part of our reason for limiting attendance to an older audience was to provide a different venue for industry, professional, and academic programming as well.
Any adult programming will clearly be marked as such in the program guide. - Can I drink during all the different events?
No. Only select events, such as the Welcome Reception, will have a cash bar available. Outside food and beverages are not allowed. - How can I sign up run a panel?
Information on running panels will be available on our Panels pages. - How do I get space in the Art Expo?
When that information is available, it will be posted on the Art Expo page. - How do I get a table in Artists' Alley?
When that information is available, it will be posted in the Artists' Alley page. - Why is there no AMV Contest or Masquerade?
We wanted to move away from competitive events (and any drama that surrounds them) and focus more on the elements that they are based on. We will still be showing anime music videos as part of our video programming and we have non-competitive cosplay events that we think people will enjoy. We hope that people are not just in it for the prizes and will find non-competive events more fun and relaxing. - Why are there no video games, collectable card games, or role playing games?
This is Providence Anime Conference. Simply put, we wanted to focus on anime rather than trying to be a catch-all event. - Why is there time on the schedule with nothing for me to do?
See Question #11... - Why are these two things I want to do scheduled against each other?
The answers to both Question #10 and #11 are actually the same. Different people have different interests and there is no way to plan a schedule that doesn't have two programming items of interest that conflict for some people...unless we scheduled everything in the same room and ran the convention for a week and a half. Of course, that would result in complaints that there sometimes wasn't stuff to do. We try to strike a happy medium by providing great programming throughout the weekend. We also try to avoid obvious conflicts (like two cosplay events at the same time.) ...but there's no pleasing everyone.
